First project: Glock 17gen4

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

My obsession with Glocks started with my G27 that I acquired back in the 1990's, and since then I have built up a small little collection of Glocks...

That collection includes this terrific Glock 17 gen4, that I rarely used — because I didn't feel very accurate with it. I simply do not like Glock’s factory sites & I now find myself replacing the sites on every Glock that I buy.

Here you can see two pictures of Glock factory sights... Followed by two pictures of after market fiber-optic sights.

It is absolutely true to say that replacing the sights on my G17 is what really got me interested in doing more upgrades. Why stop now, more upgrades can make this a true beauty. I am so glad that I replaced the sights, just that one change made it seem easier to shoot for me.

I decided to then add a bright red Big Mouth Aluminum Magwell From GlockStore. I love Magwells, a good one aids with fast reloads, but my favorite thing is the way it keeps your hand pushed up high on the gun.. it’s a terrific addition & really adds a great feel to the gun, not to mention it gives a slick, badass look.

The Magwell itself is not enough.. Magazines need to go with it. This is not always true. I will have another blog post about Magwells, that talks about some interesting things that not all Magwells are made equal. THIS GlockStore Magwell, however, is phenomenal. It works with factory magazines and with Glockstore Double Diamond Plus extension magazines (as seen in the above picture) as well as 3rd party magazines. I have had no problems using any magazine with this Magwell.

If you cannot tell, I went with a red theme on this gun... I decided to replace the pins and the slide release with red colored replacements from.... you guess it... GlockStore. You might think this was mostly cosmetic, but the slide release adds some terrific function and so does the Extended Magazine Catch that I added. Both of those enhancements and allow me to be much faster and make the gun more responsive when on the line in a competition.

Additionally, I wanted to keep the gun controlled more. Allow me to keep it on target during competition, so I looked at upgrading the trigger. This is when I did some research and acquired the flat-front APEX trigger from Brownell's. I love this trigger, it's got a fantastic pull reacts well, it snapped right into the gun easily and is a real performer.

However, with all my cards on the table - I have since been using the Pyramid trigger from GlockStore in other Glocks, and that has truly outperformed the APEX trigger in my eyes, and become my go-to trigger.

I've also added the Tungston Guide Rod, from GlockStore, in red of course.. The guide rod also improves accuracy and speed by reducing recoil and muzzle flip.

Just to have some more fun, I then put on the Streamlight TLR-7 tactical flashlight you see on the front. I chose this light, because it is of super-high quality and works with the Safariland holster that I use.

I have done more with this fun G17, and it's gone from being a gun that just sat in my safe and was never used to one I really like to shoot! Keep an eye out for more blogs on what I've continued to do with this particular Glock.
